The National Science Centre, in cooperation with the M-ERA.NET network, hereby announces the M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2021 for international research projects in the area of material science and material engineering material science and innovation on materials and battery technologies, supporting the European Green Deal.

Programme description

Funding proposals may be submitted by international consortia composed of at least 3 research teams from at least 2 countries participating in the call. The Principal Investigator of the Polish research team must hold at least a PhD degree.

Countries participating in the call: Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Spain, Iceland, Israel, Canada, South Korea, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Latvia, Germany, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland, Sweden, Taiwan, Turkey and Hungary.

Under the M-ERA.NET 3 Call 2021, funds can be awarded to cover salaries for members of the research team, salaries and scholarships for students and PhD students, purchase or construction of research equipment and other costs crucial to the research project.

The total amount of funds allocated by the NCN for all Polish research teams in the call 2021 is EUR 500,000.

Research projects may be planned in the call for a period of either 24 or 36 months.

Timeline

    • International level (two-step procedure)

    Both in the first and second step of the call, a joint proposal is prepared by the Polish research teams in cooperation with the international partners (in English) and submitted by the international Consortium Leader via the international Submission System of the M-ERA.NET network.

    First step: 15 June 2021 (12:00 noon CET): submission deadline for pre-proposals

    PLEASE NOTE: At this stage, Polish applicants submit no documents to the NCN.

    Second step: 17 November 2021 (12:00 noon CET): submission deadline for full proposals

    • National level (single-step procedure):

    An NCN proposal concerning the Polish part of the project is prepared by the Polish research team and submitted to the NCN electronically via the ZSUN/OSF  submission system within 7 days of the submission deadline for joint full proposals (international level). NCN proposals are submitted at the full proposal  stage. NCN proposal submission procedure in ZSUN/OSF is available here.

    24 November 2021 (4:00 p.m. CET): submission deadline for NCN  proposals by the Polish research teams.

    PLEASE NOTE: The information provided in NCN proposals and in joint full proposals must be consistent. Joint full proposals annexed to NCN proposals must be consistent with joint full proposals submitted on the international level.

    January 2022: publication of the list of projects recommended for funding

Amount of contribution

The total amount of funds allocated by the NCN for all Polish research teams in the call 2021 is EUR 500,000

Types of eligible costs

Direct costs include:

  1. remuneration:
    • full-time employment: funds for full-time employment of the principal investigator or post-doc(s);
    • additional salaries for members of the research team;
    • remuneration and scholarships for students and PhD students;
  2. purchase or construction of research equipment, devices and software;
  3. purchase of materials and small equipment;
  4. outsourcing;
  5. business trips, visits and consultations;
  6. compensation for collective investigators; and
  7. other costs crucial to the project.

Indirect costs may not exceed 20% of direct costs. Additionally, indirect costs of up to 2% of direct costs may be spent on open access to publications and research data.
