The project constitutes the response to challenges connected with gathering and processing knowledge about reacting in the situation of crisis, being a consequence of Russia attacking Ukraine. The studies planned in the foregoing project are of interdisciplinary character, combining the sociological and political-scientific (concerning public policies) approach to migration management. The planned activities are rooted in the concepts of multilevel governance and social resilience.

The objective of the studies is to map the actors (within various categories of subjects (central, local, public, private, formal and bottom-up) involved in crisis management and assistance activities for people fleeing after February 24th 2022 from Ukraine to Poland or from eastern regions of Ukraine to its western regions. The studies will be conducted in the two border areas: the province of Lublin (Poland: migrants from abroad) and the circuit/oblast of Volyn (Ukraine: domestic migrants). It is crucial to commence the studies as soon as possible, due to great variability of the situation. The detailed objectives refer to the analysis of activities performed by identified actors in various dimensions, in.a. coordination, cooperation, resources, challenges, responses and process dynamics in Poland and in Ukraine, both in the reception phase and in the subsequent stages of the crisis.

The project team assumes to achieve these objectives through performing qualitative studies (interviews, focus groups) with representatives of different categories of support initiatives in the province of Lublin and the region of Lutsk. The study on the Ukrainian side will be coordinated and accomplished by the team of researchers from the Lesia the Ukrainian State Volyn University, who is a partner in the project. The effect of the studies undertaken will be preparing reports, scientific publications, but also recommendations for local and central actors of migration process management.
