The HORIZON 2020 is the European Union programme for research and innovation, implemented for the years 2014-2020. Its structure is based on three main priorities:

Excellent Science: the pillar is divided into the following:

• Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA Actions)
• Research Infrastructures including e-infrastructures

Industrial Leadership: the pillar is divided into the following:

• Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies
• Innovation in SMEs
• Access to Risk Finance

Societal Challenges: the pillar is divided into the following:

• Health, demographic change and wellbeing 
• Food security, sustainable agriculture and forestry, marine and maritime and inland water research and the bioeconomy
• Secure, clean and efficient energy 
• Smart, green and integrated transport
• Climate action, environment, resource efficiency and raw materials
• Europe in a changing world – inclusive, innovative and reflective societies
• Secure societies – protecting freedom and security of Europe and its citizens.
